In the near future, space travel could become as cheap as airline flights are today. Engineers are working very hard to find new, innovative and cost effective ways to travel to space. One of the compaies closest to achieving the goal of commercial space flight is Richard Bransons Virgin Galactic.
Virgin Galactic was founded in 2004 by intrapreneur Richard Branson, the company's aim is to provide suborbital flights to space tourists. In the past the "use once" nature of spacecraft made space travel a hilariously expensive endevour. To make spaceflight cheaper, Virgin Galactic have designed a dual craft system which work together to get to altitude. This system comprises of two components, the carrier and the orbiter. The carrier is a large aeroplane which carries the orbiter to 21km in altitude, once at altitude, the orbiter releases from the carrier and rockets power it to a final altitude of 110km. At that altitude the ocupants of the capsule will experience micro gravity and be able to see the curvature of the earth.
